Two-story suburban house with front yard and real estate for sale sign

If you are selling your property and have a pending Property Tax Grievance(s), there are important steps you should take before closing.

Many homeowners do not realize that pending grievances do not automatically transfer to the buyer when the home is sold. Without proper arrangements, the original homeowner may remain responsible for fees related to the grievance process.

In many cases, a transfer agreement can be completed during the sale process to ensure:

  • The buyer receives the benefit of any future reduction
  • Responsibility for applicable fees is transferred appropriately

Think of it this way, just as you would transfer utilities and other property related services when selling your home, you should also contact your Property Tax Grievance Company to discuss how to properly handle any pending grievance(s).

If you plan to sell your home, it’s always a good idea to discuss any pending grievances early in the transaction process.
